Ecoscope Desktop uses the same data source framework as Ecoscope Web, allowing workflows to retrieve data from connected external systems such as EarthRanger, SMART, or Google Earth Engine.
Data sources must be configured before workflows can run. Without a configured data source, Ecoscope Desktop will not be able to retrieve the data required to generate dashboards and analyses.
Like Ecoscope Web, data sources are configured through the same familiar interface you know and love. However, unlike Ecoscope Web, Ecoscope Desktop manages your data sources locally on your machine and not on the cloud. As a reminder, data source credentials are always stored encrypted at rest, as explained at File Storage in Ecoscope. Some data source configuration like Google Earth Engine may require importing credential files or providing additional configuration parameters.
For detailed instructions on connecting and managing data sources, see:
Configuring Data Sources in Ecoscope
Important Behavior
In Ecoscope Desktop, data source credentials are never validated during the configuration step. If credentials or configuration parameters are incorrect, the issue may only appear when a workflow is executed.
If a workflow fails due to an authentication issue, review the workflow logs or metadata panel for error details.
