EarthRanger Mobile Version 2.13.0

Map Layers allows you to download and display map reference layers — such as property boundaries, protected areas, and fence lines — directly on the EarthRanger Mobile map.

Note: Map Layers is a significant new feature in this release. Please review the Map Layers section below carefully before deploying to field teams.

Important: Before going to the field, verify that your Map Feature Layers have been downloaded successfully while connected to the internet. Downloaded layers are required for offline use and cannot be retrieved without a network connection.

🌟New Features

Map Layers

To access and use Map Layers:

  1. Open the map in EarthRanger Mobile.
  2. Tap the Map Layers button on the map overlay.
  3. You'll see a list of available Feature Types grouped by category. These are reference layers like boundaries, fence lines, or protected areas.
  4. Tap Download next to any Feature Type you want to use. This saves the layer to your device so it appears on your map.
  5. Toggle layers on or off to control what appears on the map.
  6. To show labels on map features, turn on Map Labels from the same screen.
  7. To jump to a specific feature on the map, tap it and select Zoom To.

Note: Map Layers management is no longer available through Settings > Display. All Map Layer controls are now accessed exclusively from the Map Layers button on the map.

Feature Geometry Download Limits
To maintain app performance, EarthRanger Mobile now enforces a limit on the number of feature geometries that can be downloaded to your device. Limits vary depending on your device. A download progress bar in the Map Layers view shows how much of your available download space is in use — the bar turns red when the limit is reached.

  • The Download All button is only displayed when 25 or fewer features are available in the list.
  • Download buttons are disabled once your device limit is reached. Removing a downloaded layer frees up space and re-enables downloads.

To adjust your feature geometry download limit:

  1. Navigate to: Menu > Settings
  2. Select Feature Layers.
  3. Enter your preferred download limit.

Note: The download limit resets to the default when a new user logs in.

🚀Improvements

  • Subject visibility performance: Improvements to how Subjects and subject tracks are loaded and filtered on the map reduce lag during navigation when many files are downloaded to the device.
  • Map Layers access consolidated: The Map Layers section has been removed from Settings > Display to reduce redundancy. Map Layers are now managed exclusively from the Map Layers button on the map overlay.

🛠️Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where the Tracking overlay overlapped the device navigation bar, causing the Map Layers button to be unreachable on some devices.
  • Fixed an issue where users could not start tracking or a patrol after manually granting location permissions following an offline session during initial sync.
  • Fixed an issue where the device navigation bar displayed above the event creation toolbar instead of beneath it.
  • Fixed an issue where the Go To and close buttons on the event pop-up could not be tapped unless the map was moved first in IOS.
  • Fixed an app crash that occurred when opening an event form containing a multiselect field with large options with an associated logic section.
