Does Ecoscope have online tutorials or training materials?
We are actively building out articles and videos for the Ecoscope Support Center. While training resources are limited right now, you can find some introductory videos (note: they may be slightly outdated). You can safely explore and test workflows — nothing you do in Ecoscope will affect your EarthRanger data.
How do I reset my Ecoscope password?
- Go to the Ecoscope login page.
- Click Reset password.
- Enter your email address.
- Check your email inbox (including your spam/junk folder).
- Follow the link in the email to set a new password.
Data Sources
What is a “data source” in Ecoscope?
A data source is the connection to the data you want to analyze.
- Currently, you can connect an EarthRanger instance using your credentials. Once connected, you can select your subject groups, event types, and patrol types to analyze.
- In the future, you will be able to connect SMART or Google Earth Engine accounts.
I can’t get my data source to connect.
Please be sure that you are using the username and password for your EarthRanger account.
What should I do if my data source connection has expired or is not loading?
If the data source connection has expired or the page is having trouble loading your subject groups, you may see a plain text field instead of a dropdown list on the configuration pages. Try:
- Reloading the page.
- Reconnecting your data source from the Data Sources page.
- Checking your EarthRanger credentials to ensure they’re valid.
How do I reconnect my Data Source?
If your Data Source connection has expired or isn’t loading correctly, you can reconnect it:
- Go to the Data Sources in EcoScope.
- Find the Data Source that is having trouble.
- Delete the current connection.
- Click Add Data Source and enter your credentials again.
Your existing workflows linked to this Data Source will remain in place and should run as before once the connection is restored.
Workflows & Reports
How can I analyze a specific event type in Ecoscope?
- Connect your EarthRanger data source.
- Go to Workflow Templates and select the Events Workflow.
- Choose your connected data source.
- Fill in the required configuration fields (optional fields can be left as is).
- For a targeted analysis, in the Event Type section, click Add and choose the desired event type. Leave blank to include all event types.
- Submit the workflow.
- On the My Workflows page, click Run to execute it.
Can I filter out cancelled patrols in Ecoscope?
Yes. In the Patrol and Event Types section under Advanced Configuration, select all statuses except “Cancelled” to exclude them.
What should I do if my workflow fails?
- If the issue persists, try running a smaller time range or removing complex filters.
- If none of these resolve the issue, find the error message by hitting View Metadata in the 3-dot menu on My Workflows for that failed workflow, and then consult the Common Errors and Solutions for possible ways to fix the workflow.
- If the error isn’t documented, please reach out to the Support team via Contact Support.
My subject groups, event types, or patrol types aren’t listed in the configuration form.
This usually means your data source connection is expired or there is a temporary loading issue. Try:
- Refreshing the page.
- Reconnecting your data source.
- Ensuring your EarthRanger account has permission to view the missing items.
Can I set up a workflow to run automatically?
Not yet — workflows must be run manually. You can, however, set a time range that extends into the future and group by date to reduce how often you create new workflows and you will have to run the workflow again each time to see the new data reflected. Scheduled workflows are planned for the future.
Can I export my Ecoscope report?
Right now, Ecoscope allows you to download snapshots of your dashboard widgets as images.
Can I download the results as a PDF?
Ecoscope doesn’t currently generate full PDF reports. Instead, you can:
- Download individual dashboard widgets as PNG images — perfect for adding charts or maps into presentations, documents, or emails.
If having a full PDF export would be valuable for your work, please let our support team know. Your feedback helps us prioritize new features for future updates.
Can I include details like Patrol number in my report?
Yes, if this data is recorded in your EarthRanger instance. Use the Group by Category option (e.g., Patrol Serial Number) when configuring your workflow.
Why am I only seeing limited options (Subtype and Sex) when grouping data?
This may indicate a data configuration issue in your EarthRanger instance or that the chosen workflow template does not support other grouping fields.
What happens if I run a workflow and there’s no data?
The workflow will succeed and when you look at the workflow results, you will see empty widgets that indicate there’s No Data to display.
