EarthRanger Mobile Version 3.2.2

Last Updated: July 31, 2026

This release delivers a redesigned, tabbed Patrols experience with filtering and search, adds inline audio attachments to event forms, and resolves several login, sync, and stability issues.

Note: The Patrols view has been reorganized into tabs, and the experimental option to change who a patrol is tracked by at start has been removed. Review the Patrols section below before deploying to field teams.

🌟 New Features

Tabbed Patrols View

The Patrols view has been reorganized into three tabs — Active, Tracks, and Done — replacing the previous collapsible-section layout. This makes it easier to find patrols in a given state and adds filtering, search, and activity tracking.

To use the new Patrols view:

  • Open Patrols from the bottom navigation.
Switch between the Active, Tracks, and Done tabs to view patrols by state.
  • In the Done tab, tap Filter to narrow the list by status (Pending Sync or Synced).
  • Applied filters appear as a badge next to the Filter button. Tap Clear All in the filter view to reset your selections.
  • Use the search bar in the Done tab to find a specific patrol by name.
  • While a patrol is active, any events you create during that patrol appear in the Activity section of the Active tab.

The Active tab now also shows the patrol's start time, start location (with a button to copy coordinates), distance, and duration.

Inline Audio Attachments

Event forms using the v2 form schema can now include an audio attachment field, letting users record and attach audio directly within the form.

To add an audio attachment:

  1. Open an event form that includes an audio attachment field.
  2. Tap Add Audio to start recording.
  3. Tap Stop when finished — the recording is saved and marked “Recording Completed.”
  4. Tap the delete icon next to a saved recording to remove it before submitting.

Note: You can't navigate away from the form while a recording is in progress. If the app closes unexpectedly mid-recording, the recording is discarded rather than saved. The Add Audio button is hidden when viewing a read-only event.

🚀 Improvements

Faster subject location updates on the map: Subject locations now refresh automatically as sync completes, so you no longer need to leave and return to the map to see updated positions.

Reduced background polling: The Patrols Tracks tab now checks for pending track uploads only when there's something to check, reducing unnecessary background activity when tracking is off.

Updated translations: Refreshed Thai, Indonesian, and Mongolian translations, and clarified the wording of the location-permission message shown to users.

🛠️ Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where a single login to a server requiring multi-factor step-up authentication could trigger several repeated verification prompts instead of one.
  • Fixed an issue where subject icons did not appear on the map after the first post-login sync until the app was restarted.
  • Fixed an issue where tapping "Navigate to Location" for a subject outside the current Subjects on Device day filter moved the map to that location without displaying an icon.
  • Fixed a regression that caused offline-created events with a Pending Sync status to open as read-only instead of editable.
  • Fixed an issue where deleting a collection row containing an inline attachment left the attachment file behind on device storage.
  • Fixed an issue where the Sign In button remained enabled when no internet connection was available.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur during background location tracking on Android.
