EarthRanger Mobile allows the association of a selected Event Type with new patrols. When Patrol Info is activated and an Event Type has been linked, a new Event of this type will open when starting a new patrol. This allows the recording of structured details at the start of any patrol. 

You can configure this setting from Settings > Data Collection where you can select the default event type for “Patrol Info Settings.”

Patrol Info: OFF

When the Patrol Info setting is OFF the workflow for starting a patrol stays as the default, with no new Event created upon starting a patrol.

Patrol Info: ON

When the Patrol Info setting is ON, a previously configured Event Type is selected and a new Event of that type will automatically be created when starting patrols from the device. You can choose whichever Event Type you'd like to be associated by selecting it from the list of those available to the user.

Every time a new patrol is started, a new Event of the selected type will be opened for the user to complete.

You can create a customized “Patrol Info” Event Type tailored to your needs on the admin site with the title and fields you need to add more details to your patrols.

By default, the first Event Type the user has access to is selected (you can modify the order of the Event Types by editing the Ordernum setting from EarthRanger admin).

Patrol Info: Example

For this example, we want to create an event that will allow us to enter the following information into patrols:

• Patrol Objective 
• Team members on the patrol 
• Mode of transportation 

To accomplish this, we will create an Event Type called “Patrol Details” that has the following fields:

We want this Event Type to be selected by default when Patrol Info is activated, so we edit the associated Ordernum field to be the lowest of all available events. 

Because it has the lowest Ordernum value, the "Patrol Details" Event Type is now selected by default when Patrol Info is activated 

Now, when starting a new patrol from the EarthRanger Mobile app, a new “Patrol Details” Event will open and can be completed:

After submitting this Event, the patrol will start as normal and the “Patrol Details” Event that was created will be displayed as an Event in the Event Feed of EarthRanger.
