Release Notes 2.143

Last Updated: July 09, 2026

This release introduces experimental vector tile rendering for events, improves map performance in areas with many events, adds playback speed control to the Time Slider, and resolves several stability issues.

✨ Enhancements

Event Vector Tiles (Experimental)
Events can now optionally load on the map using a vector tile format instead of the standard paginated method, laying the groundwork for better map performance at scale. This capability is off by default and is being enabled for a limited number of sites as part of ongoing map performance work. Filtering and permissions behave the same as with the existing map layers.

Time Slider playback speed control
The Time Slider now includes a speed button that lets you play back event history at 0.5x to 2x speed. The control is fully accessible by keyboard.

New event icon: Takhi (Przewalski's horse) birth
A new icon is now available for classifying Takhi (Przewalski's horse) birth events.
