A Connection is an external system or account that Gundi exchanges data with — an EarthRanger site, a SMART Connect server, or a GPS tracker vendor account, for example. You configure a Connection once, giving Gundi what it needs to communicate with that system: a unique name, the Workspace it belongs to, and the connection details for that technology (e.g., server URL, token or credentials). Routes then use your Connections to move data.
How Connections are used
Every Route is built out of Connections. Depending on the technology and how the Route is set up, a Connection can play either role, or both:

Data provider
The Connection sends data into Gundi. For example, a CellStop or Spidertracks account providing vehicle or aircraft positions, or an EarthRanger site sharing its events. -
Destination
The Connection receives data from Gundi. For example, an EarthRanger site or a SMART Connect server receiving observations collected from your data providers. -
Both
Some systems can send and receive at the same time. For example, in EarthRanger-to-EarthRanger sharing, each site is a Connection that provides its own events and receives the other site's.
The same Connection can be reused across any number of Routes — configure your EarthRanger site once, and every Route that delivers data to it points at the same Connection.
Managing Connections
Using the top navigation bar, select Connections to see every Connection in your Workspaces, along with its technology and health status. Select a Connection to review or update its configuration, and to see the Routes where it is used.
