The EcoScope Downloader is a third-party tool that enables EarthRanger users to export observation data for analysis in applications like Excel, QGIS, or ArcGIS. While EcoScope provides its own detailed documentation, this article outlines how EarthRanger integrates with the tool and what to expect from the export process.

Overview

The Ecoscope Downloader allows you to export observations for multiple subjects within a group into a CSV format. This data can be used in applications such as QGIS, Excel, or other analysis tools. However, it is important to note that the downloader does not currently support filtering by individual subjects during export.
General Steps for Using the Ecoscope Downloader with EarthRanger
1. Launch the EcoScope Downloader
- Use the EcoScope interface to begin the process.
2. Select the Subject Group
Select the group containing the subjects you want to analyze.
Export the observations to a CSV file by following the steps in Observations CSV Export via Admin. The output will include data for all subjects in the selected group.
3. Export to CSV
Initiate the export. The CSV will include:
- Timestamps
- Latitude and longitude
- Source/subject IDs
- Additional observation metadata
4. Filter Data by Subject (Optional):
Open the CSV in a spreadsheet program (e.g., Excel, Google Sheets) and filter rows based on the subject_name or source_id.
5. Prepare Data for QGIS (if needed):
If using GIS tools like QGIS, ensure the following:
- Latitude and longitude are in separate columns
- CRS (Coordinate Reference System) is properly aligned with your project
6. Import into Your Analysis Tool
Upload the formatted CSV to your analysis tool (e.g., QGIS, Excel, or custom scripts).
Important Considerations
Subject Identification:
If your exported CSV includes source IDs instead of subject names, cross-reference the source IDs with a Subject Summary export from EarthRanger to identify subjects.
Limitations:
The Ecoscope Downloader exports all subjects within a group, so additional filtering may be required for individual subject analysis.
