Release Notes 2.145

Last Updated: August 07, 2026

This release introduces per-site multi-factor authentication and real-time subject updates on the map and in the subject history table, along with several performance and stability improvements.

Important: Event text search behavior has changed.

Text search previously over-matched on single- and multi-choice fields. An event was returned if the search phrase matched any option in the field’s list of choices — not just the option actually selected. For example, an event with a species field was returned when searching for any species in that list, regardless of which species was recorded.

Searches now match only the value selected on the event, so some queries will return fewer results than before.

✨ Enhancements

Per-site multi-factor authentication (MFA) available
Organizations using EarthRanger Identity can now enable multi-factor authentication for their site, enforced across the web app, the API, and real-time connections. When enabled, users may be asked to re-verify with a second factor at set intervals rather than being signed out. This is off by default and must be turned on by an administrator.

New event and subject icons
Ten new icons have been added for events and subjects, giving administrators more options when configuring visual classification.

EarthRanger Identity login translated into five new languages
The EarthRanger Identity login experience is now available in Spanish, French, Portuguese, Nepali, and Swahili.

🛠️ Improvements

Smoother recovery from authentication interruptions
If a session is interrupted, EarthRanger Web now attempts to silently renew it, or prompts for a quick MFA re-verification if required, instead of signing the user out with an unexplained error.

Real-time subject updates on the map
Subjects now appear and disappear on the map and in the subject-group sidebar as they're created or deactivated, without needing to refresh or wait for the next data refetch.

Live-updating subject history
The subject history table now updates automatically as new observations arrive, instead of only refreshing on reopen or when paging through results.

Faster loading for the Community Input page
The Community Input page now loads considerably less JavaScript, improving load times for submitters who don't interact with the map.

Redesigned "Add to Incident" modal
The "Add to Incident" modal has updated styling and loading states for a more consistent experience.

Feature Types can be deleted when only referenced by a historical import
Administrators can now delete a Feature Type even if it's only referenced by a past Feature Import File.
