In Gundi, a Route represents the flow of data from a physical or virtual device to the platform where it will be processed and analyzed.

A Route links Connections - the systems Gundi holds credentials for, such as an EarthRanger site or a SMART Connect server. One Connection provides the data, and one or more receive it.

Key Elements of a Route

Each Route includes the following components:

• Connections

  • Destinations - one or more Connections the data is sent to. Learn more: Supported Destinations.

A new Route starts with just its data provider; until you add a destination, Gundi marks it as incomplete.

• Sources
  The physical or virtual devices linked to the Route (e.g., wildlife collars, weather stations, or third-party data services).
   
• Activity Logs
  Records of all Route activity, including successful data transfers, errors, and configuration changes.

Accessing Routes

After logging into Gundi, you’ll be redirected to the Routes list by default. You can also access it at any time by selecting “Routes” from the top navigation bar.

This list shows all the Routes created for your Workspace in Gundi.

Searching and Filtering Routes

Use the search and filter controls above the Routes list to quickly find what you need.

• Search by entering a Route or Workspace name in the search box.
• Filter to narrow results by Data Provider, Technology, Destination, Workspace, Destination URL, or Health (e.g., Healthy, Unhealthy, Needs Review, Disabled).
   

Editing Routes

To view a Route’s details, click on it in the list. The details page has three tabs: Configurations, Sources, and Logs.

Configurations shows the Route as a diagram of itself: a node for the data provider, a node for each destination, and an arrow for each direction data travels.

• Select a node to configure that system - its name, credentials, and the data it sends or receives.
• Select the button on an arrow to configure that direction, including the rules applied to the data as it passes through.

Each section saves on its own, so you can update one part of a Route without touching the rest.

Only Admin users can edit Routes.
 

Route Health

Gundi shows a health status next to each Route’s name: Healthy, Unhealthy, Needs Review, or Disabled. Routes are analyzed every hour, and any Route with recent errors is marked Unhealthy. If this happens, check the Activity Logs for details or contact Support for help.

If a Route still needs configuration, Gundi marks the node or arrow that needs attention with a warning indicator, so you can go straight to the part that is incomplete.
